Japan Village Comes to Industry City
Sunrise Mart will open a 20,000-square-foot Japan Village grocery and restaurant in Industry City, the massive complex on the waterfront in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park neighborhood.
“Sunrise Mart’s concept for a grocery, restaurant, and classes will make it a one of a kind destination for food lovers in Brooklyn and throughout New York City,” said Harris Bulow, senior director for Eastern Consolidated, who with Aric Trakhtenberg represented Sunrise in the transaction.
Industry City was represented by Meredith Maltby and Jim Somoza, along with agents from the Shopping Center Group Chase Welles and Grant Holtan.
Sunrise already operates five restaurants and three Japanese specialty markets in the East Village, SoHo, and Midtown. At Industry City, it will fill a 10,000-square-foot space at 934 3rd Ave. and a 6,000-square-foot space in a contiguous building at 253 36th St., plus a basement. The buildings will be connected through a common corridor and face a courtyard.
