J.C. Penney HQ Buyer Has Eye on Former Hospital Space
Sam Ware, who made headlines in 2016 with its $400 million buy of J.C. Penney’s Plano, TX headquarters, has his eye on another huge property. Ware, who heads up Dreien Opportunity Partners, is in talks to acquire a 38-acre, one-million-square-foot campus northwest of downtown Dallas that once housed Parkland Hospital. The campus, built in the mid-20th century, includes the original hospital where President John F. Kennedy was treated in 1963, after he was shot.
The campus consists of more than a dozen buildings, parking garages and land on Harry Hines Boulevard. It has been vacant since Parkland Hospital moved to its new campus across the street in 2015. CBRE has been marketing the property since early 2017 on behalf of the Parkland Health & Hospital System.
