Irving Casino plans move ahead

Irving Resort/Casino Plans Moving Forward

A rezoning that could allow a resort and casino in Irving has passed the Irving Planning and Zoning Commission. The city council is expected to take up the matter during a March 20 meeting.

The rezoning is for land on a largely undeveloped 182-acre plot between the Trinity River and State Highway 114, next to the old Texas Stadium site. The Las Vegas Sands Corp. bought the property in 2023 and executives see it as a prime spot for a major development. With the rezoning for the resort and casino, the tract could also host a 15,000-seat arena or an indoor theater with at least 4,000 seats.

The Dallas Business Journal reports that the rezoning has generated speculation that it could be used as a future home for the Dallas Mavericks NBA team. The same group that owns the team also owns the Las Vegas Sands Corp.
