Irvine Co. Proposes New Developments
The Irvine, CA City Council is reviewing a proposal by the Irvine Co. to develop 1,960 apartments along Sand Canyon Avenue, adjacent to Interstate 5. The plan involves three separate developments including:
- 1,710 apartments, a 25,000-square-foot shopping center and five-acre park off the I-5 freeway across Sand Canyon Avenue, currently designated for research and industrial uses.
- Up to 250 apartments, a 1.7-acre park and a 10,000-square-foot child care center at Sand Canyon and Great Park Boulevard.
- Up to 530,000 square feet of industrial near the State Route 133 and I-5 interchange.
Irvine Co. seeks to add housing for those who work in the Spectrum area. The proposal will decrease non-residential uses by 1.5 million square feet. Meanwhile, the city is studying how the proposed project will impact traffic.
