Intel Plans $7B Arizona Investment
Intel Corp. will be investing more than $7 billion to upgrade, complete and open Fab 42, a high-volume semiconductor factory that will be the most advanced in the world. The factory, which will be built in Chandler, AZ, will take three to four years to complete, and will end up creating 3,000 high-tech jobs for process engineers, equipment technicians and facilities support engineers and technicians.
The one-million square-foot Fab 42 on 88th Street was completed at the end of 2013, with plans to use it to manufacture 14-nanometer chips. The plant, however, remained empty, amid cutbacks and workforce reductions.
In the upgraded plant, Fab 42 will rely on 7-nanometer manufacturing process that will produce microprocessors to power data centers, as well as connected devices.
