Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción in Boston Secures City Approval for New Community Center
Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA) has received approvals from the Boston Planning and Development Agency and Zoning Board of Appeal for the construction of its Center for the Arts, Self-Determination, and Activism (The CASA). The four-story building will be located at 85 West Newton Street in Boston, Massachusetts.
The upcoming construction of The CASA is designed to prioritize sustainability and accessibility. It will be built to meet LEED Silver+ standards and comply with ADA regulations, while featuring a third-floor roof deck, various classrooms, community spaces, offices, and conference rooms. The centerpiece of the building will be a two-story performance space for community meetings and events aimed at reinvigorating IBA’s arts program and expanding its youth, social, and economic mobility programs.
The CASA is expected to be completed in late 2024 and will cost $25 million, which is being financed through public and private funds, with philanthropic funds being raised to meet the total fundraising goal.
