Inland Empire Jobs Engine Firing on All Cylinders
The Inland Empire’s employment picture continues to improve, as reflected in the latest state Employment Development Department report. The total number of jobs in the Inland Empire increased 3.4% in December from the same period in 2016. Overall job growth in California was up 2.1% year-over-year.
Riverside and San Bernardino Counties’ job gains were supported by a rise in the number of people entering and re-entering the labor force, which was up 1.9% year-over-year. High coastal area housing costs are forcing families to look at lower cost alternatives, such as the Inland Empire.
The construction industry led all sector growth with the addition of 14,300 jobs year-over-year. The region’s December unemployment rate remain unchanged from November at 4.1%, which is the same rate as the U.S, and below California’s rate of 4.3%.
