Indy’s Circle Centre Studies Carson’s Replacement
The city of Indianapolis and Simon Property Group will look to the future as they determine what to do with the Circle Centre space that Carson’s will vacate this spring.
Carson’s occupies 145,000 square feet of the 800,000-square-foot mall that is owned by the city. Officials with the city and Simon, which leases the center, hope to determine their path quickly. Discussions center on what would be best for the mall over the next 15 to 20 years.
“We’ve been flooded with suggestions, ideas and energy around some big concepts,” Thomas Cook, chief of staff to Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, told the Indianapolis Business Journal. “Whether that be another retail tenant, whether it be a shift to mixed-use development or office development, or even some ideas that aren’t easily categorized.”
One possibility: a convention center hotel.
The city has yet to commit any money to redeveloping the space.
