Industry Coalition Supports Congressional ROAD to Housing Act
A coalition of national real estate associations, including The Real Estate Roundtable, the National Multifamily Housing Council and the Mortgage Bankers Association, wrote to Congress urging support for the Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream to Housing Act (ROAD to Housing Act, S. 5027 | H.R. 990). Introduced by Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and Rep. French Hill (R-AR), the legislation aims to make housing more affordable and widely available.
“The enactment of this legislation would be a valuable step forward in addressing the nation’s housing affordability challenge and its underlying cause – a lack of adequate supply,” according to the letter. “These problems demand the focused attention of Congress and the federal agencies that regulate key aspects of the housing ecosystem.”
Among other measures, the ROAD to Housing Act contains reforms designed to increase affordable housing construction options, small-dollar mortgage lending, construction grants and the building or preservation of housing in Opportunity Zones. The bill also aims to promote regular, sustainable dialogue on housing matters between engaged federal agencies and Congress.
Other signatories to the letter include American Land Title Association, American Resort Development Association, Appraisal Institute, Broker Action Coalition, Community Home Lenders Association, CREFC, Leading Builders of America, Manufactured Housing Institute, National Apartment Association, National Association of Home Builders, National Association of Mortgage Brokers and National Rental Home Council.
