Illinois DOT Unveils $11B, Six-Year Infrastructure Plan

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced an $11.2 billion, six-year infrastructure repair program to update more than 500 deteriorating bridges and 2,523 miles of road throughout the Land of Lincoln. The “FY2017-22 Proposed Highway Improvement Program” represents a $2.8 billion increase over a previous plan.

The plan would include $68 million in improvements for bridges on Interstates 90 and 94 (Kennedy Expressway) in Chicago, as well as $478 million to replace the Interstate 74/U.S. 6 bridge in the Quad Cities on the western side of the state.

“Our latest multiyear highway program is more promising than a year ago, but we still have our work cut out for us,” said IDOT Secretary Randy Blankenhorn. Blankenhorn added that current transportation revenue projections are insufficient for the state’s needs.
