IKEA Takes Down 1M SF in Baytown

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA inked a deal for one million square feet in Baytown, TX, east of Houston. The company announced it would hire 200 workers to staff a new customer fulfillment center, to be located in two buildings at the Cedar Port Industrial Park. IKEA has three other fulfillment centers in Texas; in Houston, Round Rock and Dallas. Two additional centers are planned in the state.

“As we expand across the country and grow our online presence, we want to ensure we have sufficient warehouse capacity to support the efficient and timely delivery and shipment of products to our customers, said IKEA’s Lars Petersson. He indicated that the goal of the centers is to increase access to the company’s product selection.

The 15,000-acre Cedar Port Industrial Park is owned by TGS Cedar Port Partners LP. The rail-served business park is situated across from the Houston Ship Channel, from the Bayport and Barbours Cut container terminals.
