Iconic Seattle Tower and Landmark Up for Sale
The oldest skyscraper in Seattle, the iconic Smith Tower, is for sale reported The Seattle Times. According to a flyer, the soaring building is listed as an investment opportunity at an undisclosed price.
Smith Tower has changed hands many times over the years and was last sold in 2019 for nearly $138 million. Unico and Goldman Sachs Asset Management are the current owners.
When it opened in 1914, Smith Tower was the fourth tallest building in the world, and it spent nearly 50 years as the tallest building on the West Coast. The building is named after L.C. Smith, a businessman from New York who revealed plans for the tower, which was later finished by his son. New York architectural firm Gaggin & Gaggin designed the building.
Located in Seattle’s Pioneer Square Preservation District, most changes or remodeling to the structure would require approval from a neighborhood preservation board and the city.
