Ice Building’s Future Could be Live, Work, Play

The Texas Research and Technology Foundation (TRTF) has released early concept renderings of the former Merchants Ice building, a five-building complex it acquired in September, 2017. Lake Flato, a San Antonio architecture firm, has re-imagined the property at 1305 E. Houston St., as a mixed-use complex offering an innovation center, boutique hotel, event center, office and lab space, residential apartments, an outdoor plaza and greenspace.

Austin-based landscape architecture firm DWG is collaborating with Lake Flato on the development. The property offers more than 110,000 square feet of buildout space on five acres. VelocityTX, TRTF’s new innovation hub, will be the complex’s first tenant.

A ground-breaking date has not been set.
