Hybrid Airbnb-Style Hotel Planned in Palm Springs
The 16-unit Blackhaus Hotel in Palm Springs is proposed as a cross between a traditional hotel and an Airbnb-style property. Located at 421 S. Calle Encilla, the .63-acre site is zoned for a hotel, not a residence.
Blackhaus Hotels LLC secured Planning Commission approval last month for four single-story buildings, roughly 1,600 square feet each, with four bedrooms and a shared kitchen. The land acquisition is expected to close by the end of 2017, and the property is envisioned to be open by the end of next year.
La Jolla, CA-based developer Steven Slagter is seeking to build a property that caters to guests comfortable with making restaurant reservations, or taking luggage to their rooms. But Slagter believes operating the facility as a hotel carries less risk than owning short-term rental properties.
