Hutto Updating Future Land-Use Map
A future land-use map used in Hutto, TX’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan (adopted in May 2015), dates back to 2009. The problem, according to city officials, is that the map is outdated. Hutto, north of Austin, has a population of approximately 24,000. The population is projected to be 37,744 by 2030, and 48,064 by 2040.
In response, city officials are embarking on an upgrade to the future land-use map. The map is a guide for development, and used to help plan the 51.5 square miles that make up Hutto, the extraterritorial jurisdiction and growth area. The city’s goal is to annex the area within the ETJ.
The next public meeting, an informal outreach, will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wed., March 8, at the Farmers Market at U.S. 79 and Short St. That will be followed by a formal meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thurs., March 23.
