Hurricane Season – It’s Just Around the Corner
As the Texas Gulf Coast continues to be impacted by Hurricane Harvey nine months after it roared ashore, another hurricane season is looming. The season officially begins June 1, and according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), there is a 75% chance that the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season will be near or above normal.
Ben Gonzalez with the Texas Department of Insurance suggests that homeowners review their insurance policies, while those who are buying homes should review deductibles and policy limits. Another suggestion, especially to those living along the coast, is to consider flood insurance and a windstorm policy.
The Texas Department of State Health Services also weighs in, suggesting a disaster supply kit, which should be packed in a portable container or backpack. Recommended supplies are a three-day supply of food, one gallon of water, a first-aid kit, flashlight and matches. Also important: Know your evacuation routes.
