Hudson Pacific, Blackstone Plan to Expand Historic Sunset Gower Studios
Brentwood-based Hudson Pacific Properties Inc. and NY-based Blackstone Property Partners received an approval from the L.A. City Planning Commission to transform the iconic Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood into a modern media campus. The former home of Columbia Pictures will be expanded by 480,000 square feet including two soundstages, a high-rise office tower and a low-rise building for office and production support staff.
Hudson Pacific Properties’ Victor Coleman said of the expansion, “…we received unanimous full approval of our master plan for Sunset Gower, which enables us to commence pre-leasing efforts and ultimately build with our partner Blackstone another nearly half-a-million-square-feet, replicating our success at Sunset Bronson.”
The existing historic facility, originally built in 1918, includes more than 530,000 square feet of production and support space, as well as 12 soundstages. Gensler has been tapped to design the new project, which is expected to commence construction in 2022.
