HUD to Harvey Victims: Here is More Money

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced $652 million in additional funding for Texans impacted by Hurricane Harvey, which roared ashore and parked itself on top of southeast Texas during August-September 2017. The announcement, which was made following a meeting between Texas Governor Greg Abbott and HUD Secretary Ben Carson, marked the third allocation of HUD funding for Harvey recovery efforts, and will provide additional restoration resources for homes, businesses and infrastructure impacted by the storm.

The funds are being allocated from the Community Development Block Grant for Disaster Recovery Program (CDBG-DR). CDBG-DR grants support disaster recovery efforts including housing redevelopment and rebuilding, economic revitalization, infrastructure repair and business assistance. The grant will supplement the $5 billion in recovery programs approved by HUD in June 2018.
