HRP to Reach Deconstruction Completion for Boston Power Plant
HRP Group has launched a video series celebrating the union workforce involved in deconstructing the former Boston Edison coal-fired power plant at 776 Summer in Boston. Since late 2021, HRP, Suffolk Construction, and NorthStar have removed over 1.25 million square feet of structures, recycling 26,000 tons of steel, and preserving four historic turbine halls. These halls will be repurposed for retail, dining, civic, and R&D spaces.
Nearly 500 union workers participated in the deconstruction. The Worker Showcase series honors their contributions, featuring stories like Christine Repetto’s journey in construction and Kevin Nee’s excitement about the project’s community impact.
The 776 Summer redevelopment plan includes 5.7 acres of public open space, waterfront promenade, and pathways, with significant public infrastructure investments. HRP has also secured approval to permit residential development at the site, enhancing housing and supporting maritime operations.
