Howard University to Raze Freedmen’s Hospital

Howard University has filed for a raze permit for its three-story College of Nursing and Allied Health Building, known as Freedmen’s Hospital Annex, located at 516 Bryant St. NW in DC. Reported by Washington Business Journal

The demolition is part of the university’s plans to make way for a new $650 million, 225-bed Level I trauma center, which has secured $225 million in tax abatements, $25 million in infrastructure support from the District, and a $100 million federal grant.

The hospital is expected to be completed by 2027. In addition to the hospital, Howard University plans to invest $785 million in new academic centers, including a Health Sciences Complex, Center for Arts and Communications, and a STEM center.
