Howard Hughes Builds First Build-to-Rent Community in Houston

Howard Hughes Corp Taking on First Build-To-Rent Community

The developer of The Woodlands in Houston and Summerlin in Las Vegas is now taking on the build-to-rent (BTR) industry. Construction is underway on Wingspan, a 263-unit rental neighborhood in Bridgeland, an 11,000 acre master planned community in northwest Houston.

Situated on 27 acres within Prairieland Village, the first residents will be able to move in by summer of 2023. The units will have a modern farmhouse design and will be a mix of detached homes, townhomes and duplexes ranging in size from 650 to 1,700 square feet.

The project is located just south of Chrysalis Lake and is surrounded by nearly 40 acres of forests and meadows. Howard Hughes’s Travis Guinn explains the new venture, “Created for renters seeking a lock-and-leave lifestyle…Howard Hughes is responding to the unwavering demand for turnkey homes with all the benefits that come with living in a master planned community.”

Arch-Con will be the builder. Howard Hughes is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol HHC.
