Houston’s Texas Medical Center Begins Work on $1.4 Billion Tower
The new tower, called the Centennial Tower, will connect with the Paula and Joseph C. “Rusty” Walter III tower, which opened in 2018. Among the new features are a new emergency department with 54 beds, nearly 400 patient beds, nine operating rooms and a 14th-floor garden.
The CEO of Houston Methodist, Dr. Marc Boom says the new tower will be hard to miss, “Together, the towers will add an impressive profile to the Texas Medical Center skyline. We are building this for our community, showing our commitment to the future of health care at Houston Methodist as we continue leading medicine for decades to come.”
The new building will also have new space for transplant medicine, intermediate care and surgical intensive care.
Houston-based Vaughn Construction is the general contractor. It’s not expected to be completed until 2027.
