Houston Ship Channel to Get $1 Billion Improvement, Will Spark Area Industrial Sites

A new, billion dollar project just got underway that will deepen and widen the 52-mile channel that stretches all the way from the Gulf of Mexico into Houston.

The “Project 11” is expected to cost $1 billion and will ensure some of the larger import and export container cargo ships can safely and efficiently move through the water.

The ship channel project should further enhance Houston’s position in the industrial real estate sector. A recent CBRE report had Houston leading the nation when it comes to industrial building. The report states businesses are attracted to Houston’s tax incentive programs and access to an array of logistics hubs, including four deep-water seaports, rail service, two international airports and an extensive highway system.

The ship channel supports two million jobs in Texas, 3.2 million nationwide and creates $801 billion in economic impact across the nation.
