Houston Rockets Building $70M Practice Facility

There was a time when NBA basketball teams practiced at the local YMCA or JCC. Sounds quaint compared to the new digs many NBA teams have to prepare for games now. Take the Houston Rockets.

Their new 75,000-square-foot practice facility, which will be named the Memorial Hermann Houston Rockets Training Center, is estimated to cost $70 million. It should open next summer.

The new facility will be three times as large as what the team currently uses at the Toyota Center downtown. The training center will feature two full-sized courts with five total hoops. The team’s locker room will feature walk-in closets, and other player amenities will include a lounge area, dining space and a steam room adjacent to the locker room. The new facility will also feature an outdoor training area and treatment, medical exam and recovery rooms.
