Houston's Allen Center hopes farmers markets will bring back workers

Houston Office Owners Hope Farmers Markets Bring Back Workers

Since the Covid pandemic, owners of office properties have been trying to find ways to make employees want to come into work. Brookfield Properties may be onto something. They’ve unveiled plans for a farmers’ market in the central meeting areas of its two largest campuses in downtown Houston. The market is scheduled to open on March 1 and continue through 2023.

The market, which sells local produce, baked goods and other produce, alternates Wednesdays at Acre at Allen Center south of downtown and Central Plaza at Houston Center, just blocks from Discovery Green. The events sponsored by Activated by Brookfield Properties, the company’s tenant engagement platform, are part of an effort to build a sense of community while providing employee experiences.

About 58 percent of workers had returned to the office in the fourth quarter of 2022 compared to pre-pandemic levels.
