Houston JCC Opens After $50M Renovation

Two years after breaking ground, the Houston Jewish Community Center’s $50 million expansion and renovation project is complete, including a new 126,000-square-foot, three-story, state-of-the-art building that features new modern amenities with improved accessibility, security and flood mitigation. The center was flooded out during Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

The new facility, located on the south side of the current Milton Levit campus at 5601 S. Braeswood Blvd., features a top-of-the-line fitness center with locker rooms, culinary studio, family-centric aquatics complex. indoor and outdoor pools, splash pads and an indoor/outdoor cafe.

Renovations were made to the 27,000-square feet existing center, which was built in 1969. The installation of flood gates and wall in front of the Joe Weingarten Building will protect from future flood damage.

Built into the $50 million capital campaign is an endowment that will support the long-term maintenance needs of the building.
