Houston ISD Proposal: Demolish, Rebuild Four Harvey-Damaged Schools

The Houston Independent School District (Houston ISD) is proposing that four elementary school campuses damaged by Hurricane Harvey be demolished and rebuilt at their current locations. The $126-million plan would call for elevation at the current campuses to prevent the type of flooding that took place in the aftermath of the powerful storm.

The four schools targeted are:

  • Braeburn, 7707 Rampart St.
  • Kolter, 9710 Runnymeade Dr.
  • Mitchell, 10900 Gulfdale
  • Scarborough, 4610 E. Crosstimbers St.

The students have been attending school in temporary locations since September 2017. If the plan is approved, the new schools wouldn’t re-open until at least 2020. The Board of Trustees is scheduled to vote on the plan on Dec. 14, 2017.
