Kinder Morgan, headquartered in Houston, announced its intent to build the Gulf Coast Express, a natural gas pipeline that will transport 1.7 billion cubic feet of natural gas from the Permian Basin to Agua Dulce, west of Corpus Christi, TX. The 430-mile pipeline is expected to feed into international export markets, including Mexico, and Kinder Morgan hopes to have it operational by mid-2019.
The Kinder Morgan announcement follows on the heels of the unveiling of the 730-mile EPIC pipeline, which is being built by TexStar Logistics. Deren Gursel with Wood Mackenzie said the pipelines being built are addressing a growing global export capacity from South Texas, as well as export demand from Mexico. The current pipelines linking South Texas to Houston are geared to move product north, to the petrochemical facilities in and around Houston.
