Houston-Area Dine-In Theatre Chain Trades to CMX
Miami-based CMX Cinemas, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mexico-based Cinemex, said it would acquire Star Cinema Grill, an upscale dine-in movie theatre operator with 10 locations mainly in the Houston metropolitan area. Deal terms weren’t disclosed.
“This acquisition creates a perfect fit for CMX, due to our shared vision with Star Cinema Grill to provide an exceptional guest experience,” said Rogelio Velez, CEO for Cinemex and CMX. “Star Cinema Grill’s locations and expertise in the motion picture exhibition industry will complement CMX’s position in the United States.”
Headquartered in Sugar Land, Star Cinema Grill launched with a facility in Webster, among the first theatre operations in Texas to serve beer and wine. Along with the Webster location, it operates theatres in College Station, Conroe, Cypress, Friendswood, Houston, Missouri City, Richmond/Katy and Spring, TX, along with one in Naperville, IL.
The company also has an 11th location under development in The Woodlands.
