Housing + Library in Inwood
Another New York City library could be transformed by new housing development, according to a proposal by city officials. The plan would renovate the Inwood branch of the New York Public Library at 4790 Broadway, keeping the library the same size and adding new affordable, rental apartments to the city-owned site. All the apartments would have formal restrictions that keep the rents affordable to households earning up to a certain income.
“We’re excited to contribute to a project that utilizes a city-owned building in a smart way. It will result in an improved library for the community, and also create much needed housing for low-income New Yorkers,” said Beatriz De La Torre, managing director of Housing at Robin Hood.
The community will have a chance to comment in a public meeting Jan. 28.
