Hotel Rooms Occupied Reach New Record
Total hotel rooms occupied in Chicago reached a record 2.33 million for the first quarter, an increase of 10.5%, according to figures from Choose Chicago, the city’s destination marketing organization. The double-digit growth was credited to both a 7.1% increase in leisure rooms booked, and a 20.5% spike in group business.
The gains follow up on the record 55.2 million visitors coming to Chicago in 2017. “We’re encouraged to see the momentum continue, as Chicago experiences unparalleled growth, especially in winter visitation,” said Choose Chicago CEO David Whitaker. “A primary focus of Choose Chicago and our partners is to establish Chicago as a 12-month visitor destination for both vacationers and meetings delegates.”
Six new hotels opened in the CBD last year, with another eight scheduled to open in 2018. That figure includes the 175-key Hotel Zachary (pictured) that opened earlier this month, adjacent to Wrigley Field.
