Hotel Derek to close

Hotel Derek Closes Doors, Mum on Future

A boutique Galleria-area hotel will soon close its doors. The Hotel Derek, located at 2525 W. Loop S., has 312 rooms and 10,000 square feet of event space.

On a Facebook site, a company representative had this, “We look forward to witnessing the upcoming transformation; supporting and passing the baton to a brand new hotel soon. On June 24, 2024, Hotel Derek will close its doors after over 20 years serving Houston.”

The Houston Business Journal reports the Hotel Derek opened in 2002, replacing the Red Lion Hotel. The 173,172-square-foot building dates back to 1979. A multimillion-dollar remodel was announced in December 2012 after Los Angeles-based Lowe Enterprises Investors (now Broadshore Capital Partners) acquired the hotel for an undisclosed price on behalf of a national hotel investment venture six months earlier. Revolve Kitchen + Bar opened in the hotel in 2014, making it the fifth restaurant in 12 years to occupy the space.

The property includes a 91,500-square-foot parking garage built in 1979.
