Hotel, Conference Center Moving Forward
December was a busy month for the city of Wichita Falls, TX, as the 4B Sales Tax Corp. and city council moved to add a full-service hotel, possibly a DoubleTree by Hilton, to its plans for a conference center. The 4B board and city council both approved a 120-day contract extension with Gatehouse Capital, which is handling the development.
The extra time (and extra costs) are being put toward a franchise fee and application to Hilton for the hotel. If all goes according to plan, Gatehouse would own the hotel. The development would go north at a total cost of $35 million, and would be adjacent to the Wichita Falls Multi-Purpose Event Center, which is at 1000 5th St., downtown.
If all the pieces fall into place, construction could launch in summer 2017, with completion by October 2018.
