Hochul Prioritizes School Reopenings, COVID Safety and Rollout of Financial Relief
Incoming New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, the state’s first female governor, spelled out her priorities Tuesday, including COVID-19 safety and financial relief to renters, landlords and workers impacted by the pandemic.
To ensure safety as schools reopen, Hochul said the state needs to require vaccinations for all school personnel. She also made increasing vaccination rates for New Yorkers a priority, saying, “Much progress has been made, but too many are not yet vaccinated, putting themselves and their communities at risk.”
The incoming governor put financial assistance on the front burner. “President Biden and our federal delegation—led by Senators Schumer and Gillibrand—worked hard to secure funds for renters, landlords, workers and more,” she said. “But, I am not at all satisfied with the pace that this COVID relief is getting out the door.
“I want the money out—and I want it out now. No more excuses and delays.”
