History Preserved, Modern Look Emerges at SJ Tribute Hotel
Newly approved designs emerged for San Jose’s landmark Montgomery Hotel, planned for redevelopment by Irvine, CA Khanna Enterprises, III, LLC. The property will be expanded with the addition of a 24-story tower, and re-emerge as a Starwood Tribute Hotel in 2019.
TCA Architects’ design features a 5-story glass atrium that serves to bridge the history of the original 1911 structure with the modernity of the new. Careful to not overpower the smaller historical landmark, modern building and engineering technology will allow a contemporary structure to rise on the city’s skyline.
The Montgomery Hotel currently operates as a Four-Points by Sheraton, though the combined structures are expected to operate as a single property. The next steps for the project are historic preservation approvals and site development permits.
