Historic UES Social Club Completes Renovations

Steven Kratchman Architect, P.C. recently completed the restoration of the façade of the historic Harmonie Club at 4 E. 60th St. in the Upper East Side Historic District. The firm was tapped by the Preservation Foundation of the Harmonie Club to repair and restore the exterior of the eight-story Beaux-Arts building, home to Manhattan’s second oldest social club.

“When it was determined that significant repairs were necessary to comply with the City’s Department of Buildings’ Façade Inspection & Safety Program, the Harmonie board committed the resources to complete a comprehensive restoration,” said Kratchman.

The renovations included replacing damaged terra cotta units and repointing at select locations; cleaning and repairing the limestone base, copper standing seam panels and terra cotta surfaces throughout; restoring the decorative metal guardrails and window/door grilles as well as the two exterior wall sconces flanking the entrance; and repairing and/or replacing windows to match with historic design.
