Historic Seminary to be Restored as Hotel

The Washington State Parks Commission voted unanimously to restore the historic seminary building at Saint Edward State Park in Kenmore, WA into a lodge-style hotel with 80 to 100 guest rooms, meeting rooms, a spa, a restaurant and cafe. Kevin Daniels with Seattle’s Daniels Real Estate submitted the proposal that was approved. The restoration project is likely to cost $45 million.

Part of the 82,000-square-foot seminary’s restoration process involves Daniels Real Estate taking on a 62-year lease for the 5.5 acres at the center of the 316-acre park. The lease includes the seminary building and grounds immediately surrounding it. In lieu of rent, Daniels plans to purchase and transfer to state parks 10 acres of undeveloped Lake Washington waterfront on the park’s north edge.

The seminary, a national landmark, suffers from years of deferred maintenance. Daniels’ goal is to preserve the building, while opening it for public use.
