Historic Met Club Extends Lease with Its Only Tenant

The Metropolitan Club, one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious private clubs, has closed a lease extension with its only tenant, the American Academy in Rome. The academy occupies 6,608 square feet on a portion of the building’s ground floor and second floor.

Founded in 1895, the American Academy in Rome offers fellowships in all phases of Italy’s history and culture through its Rome prize competition. The academy has been operating their headquarters at The Met Club at One E. 60th St. for over 25 years.

An Avison Young team of principal and tri-state president Arthur J. Mirante and associate Matthew Pynn represented building ownership in the transaction, together with Trent S. Dickey of law firm Sills Cummis & Gross.

“The building’s history and stellar location across from Central Park make it a truly unique property,” said Mirante. The Met Club has occupied the property since 1893.
