Hillwood Collaborating on DFW “Smart Port”

AllianceTexas Developer Hillwood is partnering on a $262 million Smart Port at the site of one of the state’s most renowned industrial facilities.

The public-private partnership between Hillwood, the Texas Department of Transportation, the cities of Fort Worth and Haslet and the North Central Texas Council of Governments aims to connect AllianceTexas’ inland port to the Texas Connected Freight Corridor and National Highway Freight Network via roads such as I-35 and I-45.

The grant will help with various projects such as building a new “smart connected bridge” from the BNSF Intermodal Facility to State Highway 170, a new 32-acre integrated intermodal depot with BNSF Railway and adding 5G communication network capacity. The goal is to boost the overall supply chain and provide real-time tracking of goods and services as they move through the port.

The technology in the new structures, such as the bridge, will help importers, warehouse operators and yard managers by giving them a real-time view of the flow of goods.
