Hillcrest Abuzz for The Hive

Local real estate developer George Flint is reportedly renovating and expanding an iconic 1928-era building in the Hillcrest area, transforming it into a home for about 30 businesses. The property, located on a prominent corner at Sixth and University Ave., is being reborn as The Hive.

The developer is seeking to bring the property back to life via a $400,000 facelift. Flint’s connection to the property goes back about 10 years, when he painted the building’s facade. The build-out is expected to be completed in May.

Flint, whose vision for the property was selected over potential restaurant users, believes the space can work for a wide array of beauty services, such as hair salons, nails, tanning and aestheticians. The last occupant, Harvey Milk’s American Diner, closed in 2014.
