Hiland Dairy Milks Success, Plans Expansion

Hiland Dairy Foods Co. announced plans to more than triple the size of its Tyler, TX operations. The dairy wants to add approximately 60,000 square feet to its current location at 200 Fuller Ave., near East Locust Street. The development will involve closure of a portion of East Locust between North Clayton and Fuller Avenues, which the city council approved.

Hiland Dairy owns a large parcel south of East Locust, and three parcels north of the street. Shutting down the block-long section of East Locust will allow the company to connect current operations with the other land tracts.

The company, headquartered in Missouri, has 2,600 employees and 12 processing plants throughout the East Texas region. According to general manager Barry Beaman, the expansion will be used to handle all Texas operations. Designs for the expansion are underway, with the project expected to take a year and a half.
