Hebrew Union College Acquires New Home on Upper West Side

Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC) announced it will move to a landmarked building known as the First Battery Armory at 56 W. 66th St. on Manhattan’s Upper West Side by 2027. The college acquired the property for $32 million, not long after selling its Greenwich Village campus to New York University for $75.5 million, the New York Business Journal reported.

“Moving to the Upper West Side will allow Hebrew Union College to become a community partner with area institutions and strengthen our ongoing collaborations with nearby seminaries and synagogues—all while retaining existing relationships with NYU and others,” said Rabbi David Adelson, dean of Hebrew Union College’s New York campus.

HUC said the new building, a landmarked armory extensively updated by its previous owner, will be reconfigured to include state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure for in-person and hybrid learning, along with a library, beit midrash and areas for prayer, community events and exhibitions.
