Heard Entertainment Acquires Performance Space

Heard Entertainment, which oversees the Empire Control Room & Garage in Austin’s Red River Cultural District, turned from renter to owner by acquiring the 15,000-square-foot space at 606 E. 7th St. The buy caps off a seven-year effort on behalf of Heard Entertainment to own the space.

The venue hosts three stages across two properties. An indoor space, the Control Room, has a patio overlooking Waller Creek. An adjacent outdoor amphitheater, the Garage, is on the site of a former automotive shop.

At one point, World Class Holdings had been interested in the space. However, the backlash following World Class Holdings’ purchase, then closure of Kingdom and Ethics Music Lounge dance venues, might have caused the company to back away from the purchase.

Heard Entertainment also owns the Parish, a venue located on Austin’s Sixth Street.
