HDRC Strikes Again – Approves Projects

San Antonio’s Historic and Design Review Commission (HDRC) approved projects impacting San Pedro Creek and the former Malt House restaurant. The commission also green-lit a plan to convert the long-vacant San Antonio Light’s campus into a mixed-use office and retail complex.

Design firm Munoz & Co. requested a certificate of appropriateness to convert the San Pedro Creek between Fox Tech High School at 67 N. Main Ave. and the old Stockyards at 1716 San Marcos Ave. into a linear park. The HDRC’s decision approved landscaping, wayfinding signage and lighting, as well as railings, stair and terrace detailing.

Additionally, HDRC approved design plans to convert the historic Malt House restaurant at 115 S. Zarzamora St. into a 7-Eleven gas station and convenience store. The final design will incorporate original features of the 1940s structure, such as signage, canopies and gathering areas.
