HDRC OKs Proposed Historic Building Conversions
San Antonio’s Historic and Design Review Commission (HDRC) granted a certificate of appropriateness to Soledad House LLC for repairs and modifications to a cluster of historic buildings in the CBD. The developer, affiliated with Austin company AMS Commercial Real Estate, plans to convert the Book, Veramendi-Clegg, Kennedy and Solo Serve buildings into hotel room and retail space.
The properties at 130 and 134 Soledad St. and 140 E. Houston St. will offer 83 hotel rooms and 96,000 square feet of ground-level retail space. The project will include:
The Book Building, which opened in 1906, will offer guest rooms and retail space.
The remainder of the Solo Serve building, built in 1922, will house guest rooms and food and beverage space.
The Veramendi-Clegg Building, which came online in 1920, will be renovated for guest rooms, retail and restaurants.
The 138-year-old Kennedy Building’s renovations will result in guest rooms, storage space and restaurants.
