HDRC Gives Nod to Borden Building Redo
The San Antonio Historic and Design Review Commission (HDRC) approved plans to redevelop a former Borden Dairy Co. plant in the city’s Tobin Hill District. The 70,000-square-foot building at 875 Ashby will be redone into 55,500 square feet of office space and 5,500 square feet of retail and event space. The former dairy building is part of the five-acre, $100-million Borden Park, a mixed-use development.
Developers Embrey Partners and Area Real Estate will begin renovations on the 1930s building in July 2020, with completion scheduled for July 2023. Gomez Vazquez International is the redevelopment architect.
Embrey and Area Real Estate are also working on adding 338 multifamily units adjacent to the Borden building. The developers would demolish the SmartStop Self Storage facility currently on the site at 815 Ashby, and replace it with the apartment complex.
