Harvey: Messing with Texas

The huge rain-producer, Tropical Storm Harvey, submerged much of Houston – including its roads. As the waters slowly recede, Texas transportation officials are beginning to assess what damage the prolonged flooding has caused.

The federal government has directed $25 million to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), to help that agency begin repairing the roads and bridges throughout the region. However, that won’t last very long. “The size and duration of this storm is beyond anything we’ve ever experienced in this state,” TxDOT’s Marc Williams told the Texas Tribune.

TxDOT indicated that roads are still underwater, and the department continues assessing the disaster. As such, the cost and length of time of the recovery remain uncertain.
