Harting Plans Major HQ Expansion in Elgin
The North American arm of German manufacturer Harting said Friday it would spend $100 million over the next five years to expand its headquarters in Elgin, IL. First order of business will be a $6-million addition of a lab and showroom. The company didn’t reveal specifics of its expansion beyond the initial project.
Harting’s expansion will create at least 50 new jobs over the next two years, and up to 250 over the next five years. It currently employs 130 people in Elgin, where it has been based since 1997.
“Illinois was the right fit for this new expansion, due to the unrivaled workforce and strategic location,” said Jon DeSouza, Harting North America president/CEO.
Founded in Germany in 1945, Harting manufactures products for the connector industry that are used in mechanical and plant engineering, broadcast and entertainment, factory automation, power generation and distribution as well as industrial electronics and telecommunications.
