Hartgrove Hospital Eyes Vacant Land for $20M Chicago Expansion

The planned $20 million expansion of Hartgrove Behavioral Health System Hospital in Austin would be facilitated through a city land sale proposed to the City Council by Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson.

The .92-acre lot at 5736 W. Roosevelt Road, which has been vacant for more than two decades, would be sold for its appraised value of $440,000 to UHS of Hartgrove, an affiliate of Universal Health Services, Inc., which employs 94,000 professionals at 400 facilities nationwide. Hartgrove provides inpatient and outpatient behavior healthcare and related services including inpatient acute mental health care, outpatient care, and accessory wellness, educational, and support services.

The land would be used for a new 28,000-square-foot addition to Hartgrove’s existing building that would accommodate 24 double-occupancy patient rooms. The expansion would help improve hospital operations and allow it to serve more patients while continuing existing programs.
