Hard Rock Hotel Planned to Top Joske’s Building

Dallas developer JMJ Development introduced plans for a 14-story Hard Rock Hotel to sit atop San Antonio’s Joske’s building at Shops at Rivercenter mall. The site is near Alamo Plaza, and, if planning becomes reality, the development would extend the current four-story building to 18 stories.

The 300-room hotel would be the only Hard Rock Hotel in Texas, and would offer a rooftop bar, ballroom, spa and pool deck. The project is still in the planning stages. Shops at Rivercenter is on Commerce Street.

There could be hurdles when it comes to getting a hotel built, however. A 2013 proposal for a 23-story hotel, also atop the Joske’s building, faced serious opposition due to concerns that it would destroy ambiance around Alamo Plaza. At the time, the San Antonio Historical and Design Review Commission recommended denying approval.
